He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1917

He was discharged from the Navy in September 1922 at Long Beach, California

On board the Texas he was part of the "black gang" as a water tender.

The series of photos to the left are (from the top) FM2 Ortha Pool, He joined the Navy on Sept. 3, 1928. He reported on board the  USS Texas on March 19, 1929. He was assigned to the AFT Eng. Room. The C.O. was CDR J.L.Kauffman, the LPO of the Aft Eng. Rm was EM1 Sloane.

The names of the others assigned to the Aft Eng. Rm. were:

1. EM1 Sloane,  2.EM2 Conaway (skaunk), 3. EM2 Cravnes (airdale), 4. EM2 Creed (B.B.S), 5. EM3 Schaeffer (Psycho), 6. EM3 Gibhart (Punch-Bag), 7. FN 1/c Condway (papa), 8. FN 2/c Pool. 

The next photo is his Certificate of completion of the Fireman Second Class Training course on 16, January 1932.

The bottom photo is a sample page of a logbook journal that Mr. Pool kept from March 25, 1929 to March 25, 1930. This would be excellent source of information of life aboard the USS Texas during that time frame.
