Armor Protection:

Belt: (Armor Belt on the side of the ship) Frame 18 to 122;( frames are 4' apart approx. ) 12" thick at top and 10" thick at bottom with a uniform taper. Frame 122 to 137; 6" thick. The height of the Belt is 7' 11.5" throughout the length. (For this next part you need to review the body plan) The TOP of the belt is 23.5" above the 28'-6"W.L

Ends: Forward at Frame 18: 10" thick on centerline and 11" thick outboard and 7'-11 1/2'' high. Aft at Frame 137: 9' thick from top of stern post to second deck.

Lower Casemate: Frame 18 to 122: 11" thick at bottom and 9" thick at top/ uniform taper. Average height is 9' above main belt.

Upper Casemate: From forward to after diagonal bulkhead: 6 1/2'' thick throughout. Average height is 4' above lower casemate belt.

Casemate Diagonal Forward: From 120° aft on barbette 2 on 45° angle aft: 6 1/2'' between main and second decks and 9" thick between second and half-decks.

Casemate Diagonal Aft: From 40° aft on barbette 3 on 60° angle fwd: 9" thick at bottom and 6 1/2" thick on top/uniform taper between main and second decks.

Turrets: Face Plates: 14" thick; Front Sides: 9" thick; Rear Sides: 8" thick; Rear 8" thick; Roof Plates: 4" thick.

Barbettes: 12" above second deck; 5" thick between second and half decks. Portions protected by diagonal armor average 7" thick.

Conning Tower: 12" thick throughout. Top plate is 8" thick. Tube is 11" thick throughout from tower floor to Central Station on third deck.
