SHIPS SERVED ON
U.S.S. TEXAS 1921-1923 ( or 1925?) not sure of last discharge.
Pac’ Fleet Was on board for Christmas Dinner 1923.
Eng’ Force I have Ship’s Menu for that dinner.
He lost partial hearing in his ears, by standing to close to the
big guns when they fired, one time. Was an accident on his part. He
always talked about how much he regretted ever leaving the NAVY, up until
the day he died. During WW2, he served as his towns, Civil Defense
Warden, ensuring that the strict blackout restrictions were maintained.
The German U-Boats, used the lights from the coastal towns, to silhouette
their targets. He always lived in New Jersey, except for his time in the
service.
He told his daughter, my mother that he was on a Torpedo Boat
during WW1.
I’m not sure if he meant a destroyer, or one of the smaller Patrol
Torpedo Boats. ( The precursor to the P.T.Boats of WW2.) I’m still
waiting for records from the government,
that should show which ships he was on and when.
