Battleship Texas Radio Rooms Restoration Project

The Houston Vintage Radio Association Working with The Battleship Texas Museum

     Battleship TEXAS - Radio Club

     GOALS

Barry Ward, Curator, has defined the way in which HVRA can assist the Battleship Texas Museum in the Radio Rooms Restoration Project. The short term goal is to survey the surviving equipment, transmitters and receivers and restore one transmitter and one receiver to operating condition. The F.C.C. will be petitioned for a special Battleship Texas amateur radio call. When the radio rooms are eventually opened to the public, ham radio operators will demonstrate how this transmitter and receiver are operated. The Battleship Texas Museum Amateur Radio Station will contact other museum ships such as the U.S.S. Alabama in Mobile Bay and incidental amateur stations.

The long term goals are to restore the radio rooms to 1945 appearance and to open them to the public. The transmitters in the transmitting room and receivers in the receiving room will be cosmetically restored. Missing equipment hopefully can be obtained.

HVRA will seek assistance from Houston area amateur radio clubs.
