The First Texas Volunteers (FTV) is the name of the volunteer organization supporting the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW) in restoring, maintaining and exhibiting the Battleship Texas. The organization is active in providing support in restoring compartments (including their furnishings and equipment) to their 1945 condition for exhibition, assisting the curatorial staff in identifying, cataloguing, storing or displaying artifacts, providing docent or tour guide services to the general public, providing participation in living history enactments, supporting the Overnight Program and assisting in various other activities as needed by the regular ship's staff.

 Opportunities Include:

 

Docent - (Tour-Guides);

  • Give tours to the Public

  • Hard Hat Tours - Non Public areas.

  • Special Events - Re-enactments

  • Participate in events away from the ship, Example: Air Shows, Parades....etc.

  • Help Display our Gun Trailer.

 

Restoration:  

  • Chipping and Painting

  • Small Engine Repair

  • Electrical, Plumbing, Machinist,  Welding & Carpentry Trades ( Much Needed )

  • Small Artifact Restoration 

 

Museum Collection:

  • Assist Curator with processing Artifacts and installing exhibits.

  • Process books and photos

  • Assist with Specialized Research

 

Museum Administration:

  • Assist with mailings

  • Perform Desktop Publishing

 

Special Interest: 

  • Boat building

  • Rope Work ( Marinerspike) 

  • Interviewing Veterans
